Duties & Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of
the Country Programme Manager and in close coordination with the Technical
Managers, the incumbent will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Prepare public information material, on all development related UN-Habitat activities on National Urban Forum for distribution to government, partners, donors, national and international media.
- Design campaigns for mass communication of UN-Habitat messages for National Urban Forum 2013 and Urban Campaign.
- Devise a mass information and communication plan of action and information outreach campaign for provision of timely and accurate information to stakeholders.
- Suggest and prepare mass information and communication materials in suitable format and languages to be disseminated through all possible channels, using leaflets, posters and radio announcements/programs.
- Establish and maintain links and coordination with the existing public information mechanism in the country office for widest possible dissemination of accurate information.
- Develop and maintain close contacts with government officials, multilateral and bilateral donors, civil society and private sector for implementation of the communication strategy, organisation of discussions, press conferences, briefing session interviews, launches, etc.
- Keep UN-Habitat partners/stakeholders informed of all public and mass information efforts, and of feedback on effectiveness or gaps.
- Prepare budget for all public information and outreach activities and strategies and monitor spending and preparing progress reports on Public Information activities.
- Support to preparing UN-Habitat Documentaries and animations for the National Urban Forum.
- Ensure adherence to UN-Habitat operational policies, procedures and standards of conduct.
- Perform any other task assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualification &
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or public relations or equivalent with 1-3 years relevant experience.
- Knowledge of current theories and practices in communication, research, planning and strategy, and the role of mass media.
- Strong English ability; must be able to express ideas and concept clearly and concisely in written and oral form.
- Excellent reporting, time and resource management, interpersonal, business communication, and advanced computing skills including MS-Office applications and special communications software applications.
- Knowledge of UN rules and regulations is an advantage.

Required Languages
Proficiency in English and Urdu
is essential. Knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
